Introduction

Nestled in the heart of Bedfordshire lies a hidden gem that Meaningful Planet is proud to support - Strawberry Hill. This extraordinary 150-hectare site has been reclaimed by nature over the past 35 years, transforming from poor arable fields into a thriving mosaic of grassland, shrub, and young woodland.

The Bedford, Cambridge and Northants Wildlife Trust has made incredible efforts to purchase and protect this incredible landscape - preserving an entirely natural habitat that an abundance of species call home.

The Mission

The BCN Trust initially secured the site temporarily in 2022, and has since been working tirelessly to permanently acquire all of the 135 hectares at the site.

So wild is the reserve that much of it is currently inaccessible to the public. This means the Trust is having to carefully plan how to open up the area without causing any disruption to the wildlife that currently thrives there.

The area in itself has been able to develop into such a wonderful natural habitat for the likes of badgers, mice and linnets (plus countless more) thanks to initially being handed over to the Countryside Stewardship Scheme by a farmer in the 1990s.

Now a thriving hotbed of wildlife, the Trust aims to preserve and protect this wonderful area for many years to come - which is something we're proud to help support at Meaningful Planet.
