You'll be forgiven for thinking that the words 'London' and 'Wildlife' don't often go together - but the fact is that our capital boasts and abundance of natural beauty. Few places is that clearer than at Gutteridge Wood and Meadows, where the London Wildlife Trust is doing fantastic work to protect and restore this wonderful site.
Gutteridge Wood and Meadows are an amazing place to visit any time of year - but in Spring, this wonderful corner of London really comes into its own. Oak and hazel coppice woodland bursts to life, with wildflowers and insects thriving in the rich habitat.
The site itself has always been a haven for wildlife, with the ancient woodland having stood for many hundreds of years. Preserving this site for current and future generations is something the London Wildlife Trust does magnificently, ensuring wet grassland continues to expand in order to protect it from any encroaching threats.
Situated within the Metropolitan Green Belt, it’s proof that nature can and does continue to exist alongside the hustle and bustle of our major cities.
