Based in Hillingdon, this nature reserve is helping Londoners to reconnect with nature - and a wide variety of species

There are countless nature reserves across the UK, which is testament to the amazing work that goes into helping to protect our environment and restore nature - something that isn't always easy in the modern world.
One place this is particularly important is London, where the London Wildlife Trust is doing fantastic work to help the capital's residents reconnect with nature.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Ickenham Marshes is part of the Metropolitan Green Belt. Running alongside the Yeading Brook, the low-lying marsh is home to plants and tall herbs - while on higher ground, an oak and ash woodland is developing.
The area is carefully protected by the Trust and volunteers - and crucially, open to the public as a means for locals to get out and explore nature.
This goal to restore the connection Londoners have with the natural world is a key part of the Trust's mission - and one we're proud to support at Meaningful Planet.
