Meaningful Planet's commitment to achieving net zero.
At Meaningful Planet, we recognise the widespread devastation caused by climate change. We are therefore committed to achieving net zero by 2050 in line with prevailing climate science to restrict global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
We have two core objectives to help us meet our net zero commitment:
Step 1: Understand our emissions impact
The first, pivotal step is to quantify our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are currently conducting our first carbon footprint (covering the reporting period 31 July 2024 to 31 July 2025) in line with the GHG Protocol, which will form our emissions baseline. This comprehensive GHG emissions assessment, including all material scope 1, 2 and 3 emission categories, will reveal our most carbon-intensive business activities; prioritising action to address emission hotspots will ensure that we allocate resources as efficiently as possible and deliver the largest absolute emission reductions. We intend to conduct a similar carbon footprint annually, monitoring emission changes against our baseline to drive progress.
Step 2: Set emission reduction targets
Equipped with an accurate emissions baseline, we will turn our attention to setting quantifiable emission reduction targets. This will include near-term (to be achieved within the next 5–10 years) and long-term (to be achieved by 2050 or sooner) targets that are in line with a 1.5°C reduction pathway. Targets will focus on emission hotspots identified in Step 1 to ensure we have the most impact. With science-based targets in place, we will be able to monitor emission changes more effectively and reveal any areas for improvement.
Step 3: Engage our employees and external partners on net zero
We will depend on support from our employees, customers and other partners to achieve net zero. A core activity will involve improving the carbon literacy of our employees, which will empower them to support Meaningful Planet in achieving its emission reduction targets (as defined in Step 2). We will also raise awareness among customers of our net zero ambition, working closely with businesses to implement emission reduction initiatives; partnering with verified UK Carbon credit providers, we will purchase and transfer accredited carbon offsets onto our customers, delivering mutually beneficial outcomes.
By following our three-step action plan, we are confident in our ability to achieve net zero by 2050 and make a meaningful difference to the planet.
